The Department of Statistics, Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, announces the opening of one tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level, beginning August 1, 2019. Candidates should have a doctoral degree in Statistics, Actuarial Science, Data Science or a related field and exhibit experience in both research and teaching. Appointees will be expected to pursue a vigorous research program and to teach three undergraduate/graduate courses per year in Spanish (with idiomatic support if required); doctoral courses can be taught in English. Load is reduced to only two courses per year during the first two years.

The Department of Statistics is the leading research group in Chile and offers an undergraduate career, MSc, and a Ph.D. in Statistics, and a MSc in Actuarial Science. The annual salary will be around 29,162,000 Chilean Pesos (CLP) (approximately US 44,000 or EU 38,000). The selected candidate can also apply to a starting funding of 8,000,000 CLP (approximately US 12,000 or EU 10,500) of the Academic Insertion, to be used during the first three years.

We invite applications from Doctors and PhDs in Economics and Geography. We will especially value knowledge in the fields of regional economics, economic geography, urban economics, natural resources economics, and economic development. The position requires a medium level of Spanish language proficiency.
The applicant must:
- Contribute to graduate-level teaching;
- Teach undergraduate courses;
- Develop and maintain an externally funded research program;
- Contribute to the department’s interdisciplinary mission.
It is expected that the candidate will be available to start working preferably on November 30th, 2013.
Required qualifications include:
- A full curriculum vitae;
- A doctoral degree closely related to the fields described above at the time of appointment;
- A letter of application describing research and teaching interests;
- Samples of writing or publications;
- The names and contact details of two referees plus a recommendation letter.
